25 Random Things

I  know I haven't posted anything here in a while, but I thought I would share this with any of my family who ISN'T on facebook :) It's a popular note that has gone all around facebook.

1. I usually never do these things, but this one actually seemed interesting & a great way to get to know more about people.

2. Some of my closest friends will know most of these things about me, because once I realize I can trust you, I really open up.

3. The most important thing in my life is my faith. I’m a strong Christian & I try to live my life for Jesus (but sometimes I fail miserably, thank goodness He’s all about grace & forgiveness, because I definitely need it!)

4. The second most important thing in my life is my amazing family! I love spending time with them & it’s very hard to be away. We may be crazy, but I totally love them all.

5. I’ve never had a boyfriend or been on a date.

6. I would absolutely love to be a stay at home mom someday.

7. I’m a farm girl from Kansas- I grew up raising cattle & baling hay (among various other farm things) & I loved every minute of it!

8. I HATE traffic- that’s why I’m glad I live so close to work- I’d rather walk!

9. 7 & 8 combined make me NOT a city girl- I’m having a hard time adjusting to living in the city (it still feels weird to say).

10. I joined the U.S. Navy to see the world & take care of our Sailors & Marines. I really like it & know it is where God has called me for this season in my life.

11. I knew I wanted to be a nurse by my freshman year in high school (if not before).

12. I like working out, but I would much rather be playing sports- I love sports! (I was a 3 sport athlete in H.S & 2 sport athlete in college).

13. I also love watching sports- any level of football, college basketball, most women’s sports & lots of others.

14. When I’m REALLY tired I get VERY giggly.

15. Right now I feel like I do nothing except work, sleep, & church- I kind of feel like I need to get a life.

16. I may stay a Naval Officer for 4 years, 20 years, or anywhere in between. I can’t wait to see where it takes me.

17. Right now I have a pet fish (that still doesn’t have a name), it’s the only pet that I can support in my tiny apartment, but someday I’m going to get a dog- a lab.

18. I hardly ever watch prime-time TV (which is 8-11 here, not 7-10 like back home), because I have to get up early the next morning, therefore, my favorite TV shows are the ones I can catch online on my days off.

19. I’m really bad about keeping in touch with friends, but I’m trying to do better. Maybe this will help.

20. My favorite food is steak, color is purple, season is summer, candy is peanut butter M&Ms, books are Christian romance, drink is milk, and zoo animal is the hippo.

21. I’d rather drive a pick-up than a sports car.

22. I don’t drink coffee, cappuccino, mocha, etc. I don’t like it. Don’t know why because my ENTIRE family drinks coffee, but I don’t. I don’t love the smell, but don’t hate it either. But I will take a good cup of hot chocolate any day!

23. My idea of a good time is sitting around with a bunch of friends or family having a great conversation & drinking hot chocolate!

24. I’m a very traditional & conservative person- I like to sew, crochet, & cook; I dress modestly; & I believe in a family structure from the Bible.

25. I am who I am, if you don’t agree with me that’s ok, just please accept me & don’t make me feel bad for being me- I’ll do the same for you- I love diversity in people.

This has taken me a week to write- I just added things as I thought of them, so they really are random thoughts about myself. Hope you enjoyed :)

Update

So, since I'm sitting at home, basically doing nothing, I thought I would update on what I'm doing right now (other than not much).  Since graduating & passing boards I have been at home helping mom recover from her accident.  We went back for her 3 month visit yesterday and got GREAT news, she's healed very nicely.  For the next week she still has to wear her braces for 1/2 day, but after that she doesn't have to wear them at all, and after another week she is completely released from any restrictions.  YEAH!!  It's a huge answer to prayers.  It's going to take some getting used to for her, and I'm still playing chauffer for a little while longer, but the hard part is definitely over.  In other news, I will be commissioning into the U.S. Navy on July 13th.  I'm looking forward to making it official.  I then leave for ODS on July 26th.  I'm excited & nervous, but I try not to think about it too much.  I'm working on getting everything I need together and getting in shape physically.  I'm still waiting to hear from a representative at the hospital in Portsmouth, so I don't have an apartment lined out yet, which is making me nervous.  I would really like to get that taken care of SOON.  Anyway, I guess that's all for now.  I'm sure I'll have lots to write & pictures to show after ODS & I get moved to Portsmouth, so stay tuned (but the exciting stuff probably won't show up until September).  God Bless & have a great summer!

Good News!

Yesterday I took my state nursing boards in Topeka, and I just found out that I passed!  I'm officially RN, BSN.  The test was hard, but I came away from it feeling that I probably passed, but now I know for sure.  YEAH!  I'm so happy & so relieved!  Now I'm just waiting on all my official documents to come through so I can commission into the Navy.  That will be sometime in the next few weeks & then I'll just be waiting & getting ready to move & start training July 28th.

It's Official!!

1) Yesterday was my last practice as a college athlete; today & tomorrow is my last competition.
2) I have finished nursing school, graduation is on Sunday!
3) Officer Development School (ODS) for the Navy starts July 28th in Newport, RI.
4) My first station will be Portsmouth, VA, where I will move in September (after ODS)

I know it’s been a long time since I wrote anything, but I was trying to finish up school, so you’ll have to forgive me. Like I said, I completed all my requirements for my Bachelor of Science in Nursing this week and graduation is Sunday. I can’t believe it is finally here- it seems like it’s what I’ve been working toward so long, and now I’ve done it. I’m still not an RN yet, in a few weeks I will take boards and if I pass, then I’ll be an RN. After passing boards then I can commission and officially be in the Navy; but, I have to pass first. I have a review course next week, so hopefully that will help prepare me even more.

After 4 intense years of college athletics, I’m almost done. I have always been on a team the entire time I’ve been in college, so it'll be different when that is over. Track & Field here at SC has been AMAZING and I’m sad to leave, but I know the legacy will live on. KCAC conference is today (Friday) and tomorrow (Saturday), where the guys will be defending 25 straight championships and the ladies 15. It’s going to be a hard fought battle for the ladies to win this year, so I’m going to do all I can to try & contribute.

After next week I will be moving home and I’ll spend a couple of months there just being home, it’ll be a nice feeling. I’ll be there as mom continues to recover & to help dad out around the farm. Then, at the end of July, I will leave for Newport, RI for ODS. That will be a 5 week training course that includes everything from physical training to how to be an officer in the Navy. I’m sure it will be intense, but I’m really looking forward to it. After that it will be off to my official duty station, Portsmouth. Portsmouth is in the Hampton Roads area near Virginia Beach (the hospital is 20 min from Virginia Beach the town, and probably 30-40 from the actual beach). I’m very excited to start this new chapter in my life. I hope to be settled into my apartment in Portsmouth by October 1st.

Hopefully in the next couple of months while I am home, I can get an apartment lined up in Portsmouth for when I get there, so I know what to pack, etc. There are contact people there that can help me out with that sort of thing. I’m so much of a planner, I want to know exactly what I’m doing, where I’m going, and how I’m getting there quite a while in advance.

So, I’ve got lots going on, even though I’m officially done with classes. I’ll keep everyone up to date & try and include pictures! Have a GREAT spring & summer!

YEAH!!

I got a call from my Navy Recruiter this week. I have been "professionally recommended" for the Navy.  What this means is that all of my paper work was approved, and as soon as I graduate and pass boards I can join the Navy!  This was the next big step I was waiting on, and I'm so excited.  I'm one step closer to make it all reality.

School is going good, just busy and stressful. I had my first night shifts in the ER this past week, which were awesome. I just can't wait to graduate!
